Ekubo was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.
In an Instagram Story shared on the same day, Grace described the task as one of the most painful moments of Yomi Casual’s professional life.
She recalled the usual playful exchanges between Yomi and Ekubo whenever outfits were ready, noting how the actor would typically joke, delay fittings, and share lighthearted banter with the designer.
According to her, the tone changed completely this time, as messages went unanswered, marking a heartbreaking reality for the designer.
She wrote:
“Typical Yomi and Alex conversation: Yomi: ore how far, your cloth don ready. Alex: ore I Dey come office come fit my cloth. Plenty insults follows. Few days ago Yomi: ore your cloth is ready Alex: no response. Yomi goes to funeral home to give his friend his final resting well tailored suit. Omoooooooo.”
Grace explained that Yomi later had to take the completed suit to the funeral home to dress his friend for the final time, a moment she said deeply affected him.
She added that the loss had weighed heavily on her husband, especially in the weeks leading up to the burial, making the experience emotionally overwhelming.
Grace questioned how he was expected to recover from such a painful duty, describing it as the most difficult assignment of his career.
“Alex how do you expect Yomi to heal from this loss? This is the hardest job he has ever done,” she wrote.
She further noted that Yomi remained committed to perfection, insisting on ensuring the outfit matched Ekubo’s style and personality, saying the late actor would have been displeased with anything less.
“This past month, especially this week has been the hardest for you. Alex is proud of you and wouldn’t have had anyone dress him up… you kept saying, ‘babe Alex go vex for me if that suit no come out well,’” she added.
Grace said despite his grief, her husband ensured every detail was carefully handled as a final tribute to his friend.
She added that Yomi found some closure after seeing Ekubo dressed elegantly in the suit one last time.
“You finally felt that sense of honour to see him looking so dapper in that suit one last time, even with so much pain and grief in your eyes,” she wrote.
She concluded by praising his strength, saying:
“Oh my Yomi!!! You did it, I’m proud of your strength and courage. We love you so much. This pain can never go away. Rest in power.”
