You’ll Never Smell Aso Rock, You’re Just A Social Media President!” – Wike Slams Peter Obi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of politicising every issue and labeling him a “social media president.”

Wike made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of newly completed Esther Bali Street and Kez Udezue Street in Mabushi District, Abuja.

He referenced Obi’s recent comments following his visit to LEA Primary School, Kapwa, Abuja, where the former Anambra governor lamented the school’s poor condition and lack of toilet facilities.

The FCT Minister criticised Obi for going public instead of reaching out privately to him or the appropriate authorities, describing his approach as unnecessary political grandstanding.

Wike further accused Obi of hoarding public funds in private bank accounts during his tenure as Anambra governor rather than using them to improve the state’s infrastructure, claiming that this mismanagement continues to haunt his successors.

He said:

“The road we’re commissioning today was brought to our attention by a responsible citizen, and that’s how development should work.

“But there’s this social media man who calls himself a presidential candidate — he went to a school in FCT and said we didn’t provide toilets. Imagine! He plays politics with everything.

“When he was governor for eight years, did he develop the entire Anambra? Instead, he kept the state’s money in his own bank. His name is Peter Obi — and that’s why his successors are still struggling.

“I challenge him to compare his eight years in Anambra with what we’ve done in just two years in the FCT. Someone who couldn’t manage a political party as a presidential candidate wants to manage a complex country like Nigeria?”
