A suspected bandit kingpin, Kachalla Mu’azu, and six members of his gang have reportedly been killed following a confrontation with a rival armed group in Zamfara State.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources reportedly told Zagazola Makama that Mu’azu and his associates were returning from Yankara Market when they were ambushed by members of a rival armed group who had allegedly positioned themselves along their route.

The ensuing confrontation reportedly resulted in the deaths of Mu’azu and six of his associates.

Mu’azu was said to have been a prominent bandit commander allegedly linked to criminal activities and attacks affecting communities in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara State, as well as neighbouring areas of Katsina State.

His reported death could have implications for the activities of armed groups operating around the Gusau axis, although it remains unclear whether the development will lead to any immediate change in the security situation.

Security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the area following the clash, particularly around the Gusau axis, amid concerns over possible reprisals or shifts in the activities of rival armed groups.

The identities of the six other gang members reportedly killed in the confrontation had not been officially disclosed at the time of the report.

Mada is located in the eastern part of Gusau Local Government Area, approximately 32 kilometres from Gusau town, while Yankara lies along the Gusau-Funtua axis.
