The operation, which took place around 10 p.m. on Friday, was carried out by troops of Operation FANSAR YANMA in collaboration with local vigilantes. This attack is believed to be part of ongoing retaliatory strikes by bandits following the killing of a notorious criminal leader in the region.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama shared the incident’s details on his handle, revealing that intelligence reports had warned security forces about the impending attack.

A security source told Makama that the troops quickly engaged the attackers in a gunfight, forcing them to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.

“The bandits attempted to storm the town to instill fear, but the security forces and vigilantes responded swiftly. We neutralized four of them, and the rest fled with injuries,” the source stated.

During the clash, a resident, Naziru Bakanike Mada, was injured by a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was promptly taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Makama emphasized that this was the fourth attempt by bandits to overrun Mada in retaliation for the killing of notorious bandit leader Alhaji Sani Dan Garin Bawo during an earlier military operation.

“Since March 11, fighters loyal to the neutralized kingpin ‘Dogo Hamza’ have launched several retaliatory attacks on Mada, but security forces have consistently repelled them, inflicting heavy losses,” Makama noted.

“Mada is their burial ground. Let them keep coming, and they will continue meeting their end,” a military official was quoted as saying.
