₦50 Million Jackpot! Edo Queens Celebrate Massive Reward After WAFU B Glory
Edo Queens have been rewarded with ₦50 million by the Edo State Government following their impressive triumph at the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the cash reward on Tuesday, September 8, during a special reception organised in honour of the champions in Benin City.
The team and their officials received a hero’s welcome after returning to the state from Burkina Faso, where they secured the regional title. Following their arrival at the airport, the players embarked on a victory parade from Airport Road to Osadebe Avenue before meeting with the governor and enthusiastic supporters.
During the reception, Governor Okpebholo commended the team for their determination, resilience and fighting spirit throughout the competition. He said he remained confident that the Edo Queens would prevail against Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa Ladies despite the challenges they faced in the final.
The governor also praised the team’s goalkeeper for her composure during the penalty shootout, noting that a crucial save helped shift the momentum in Edo Queens’ favour.
Okpebholo assured the players and officials that his administration would continue supporting the team and creating opportunities for the players to further develop their football careers.
Edo Queens secured the WAFU B title after defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties in Sunday’s final in Ouagadougou. The encounter ended 2-2 after regulation time before the Nigerian side prevailed in the shootout.
With the victory, Edo Queens have earned the right to represent the WAFU B zone at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
