₦6 Billion Lie! Edo Govt Fires Back At IPOB Over Fulani Compensation Claim

The Edo State Government has firmly denied allegations that it allocated ₦6 billion in compensation to so-called “Fulani terrorists,” calling the claim a fabrication by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement addressing IPOB’s recent accusations, the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo dismissed the claims as false, inflammatory, and intended to mislead the public. IPOB had accused the Edo government of betrayal, alleging it had disbursed funds to terror-linked groups.

The state government, through a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, stated:

“This publication is not only inciting but a malicious effort by a known terrorist organization to twist facts, incite ethnic hatred, and disrupt the peace and unity that Edo State proudly upholds. IPOB’s strategy of spreading lies under the guise of activism is not new. Their attempt to drag Governor Okpebholo into their web of violence and ethnic division is futile.”

Key points from the statement include:

1. No such ₦6 billion payment was approved or made. The government stressed that the figures were entirely fabricated, and reaffirmed it would never support or reward any entity involved in criminal or terrorist acts.

2. Governor Okpebholo’s administration remains fully committed to justice, security, and the protection of all Edo citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Claims that vigilantes were handed over to “Fulani authorities” were labeled as ridiculous and insulting, especially to the memory of security operatives serving Edo honorably.

3. The government warned that IPOB’s efforts to incite ethnic tension in Edo are both criminal and destined to fail. Edo people, known for their unity and progressiveness, reject such divisive tactics and reaffirm their resistance to any form of extremist ideology.
