11-Year Prison Term For A Lady Caught With 35.20kg Of CannabisThe Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced 41-year-old Canadian Adrienne Munju to 11 years in prison for importing 35.20 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as “Canadian Loud,” into Nigeria. Munju pleaded guilty to the charges during her arraignment. NDLEA prosecutor Mr. Abu Ibrahim stated that the offense occurred on October 3, 2024, during the clearance of passengers arriving on a KLM flight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The prosecutor indicated that her actions violated the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act.

Following her guilty plea, the prosecution presented evidence and witnesses, urging the court to convict Munju based on the evidence and her admission of guilt. The judge reviewed the case details and convicted her accordingly.

In mitigation, Munju’s counsel, Benson Ndakara, requested leniency, highlighting her remorse and her promise to avoid future criminal activity. He explained that she had been deceived into trafficking the drugs and emphasized that she had no support in Nigeria.

Ultimately, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Munju to six years for one count and five years for the other, with both sentences to run concurrently. The judge ordered that the option of a fine be imposed instead of additional prison time.

Munju was arrested after NDLEA operatives discovered 74 parcels of cannabis hidden in her bags upon her arrival. She claimed she was recruited through an online platform, promising a reward of 10,000 Canadian dollars for the delivery, which she needed to fund her Master’s degree studies in Canada.
