The outage coincided with the return of the Champions League, an eagerly anticipated event for fans eager to watch their favorite teams. Unfortunately, those relying on GoTV were dismayed to find all football-related channels suddenly unavailable.

Channels affected included SS BLITZ Africa, SS Football Africa, SS La Liga Africa, SS Select 1, SS Select 2, and ESPN. Additionally, numerous other channels, such as M-Net Movies 4, ROK, Africa Magic Epic, TNT Africa, Al Jazeera, CNN International, Arise News, TVC News Nigeria, and Channels Television, also experienced outages.

Investigations revealed that the disruption stemmed from a severe power failure affecting the Intelsat 33e satellite, which services Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of the Asia-Pacific. This failure, reported by Developing Telecoms, caused widespread service interruptions, impacting MultiChoice and its customers.

While football fans were left outraged by the lack of service, many criticized MultiChoice for its failure to promptly communicate the issue. A viewing center owner in Ojodu Berger reported disappointment from his patrons who were unable to watch the matches on Tuesday night.
