The appointments are being made in four phases, with the final batch of appointees expected soon.

In a related development, Governor Kefas has endorsed the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming local government autonomy, aligning it with his administration’s commitment to decentralization and empowering local communities.

During the inauguration of the Local Government Areas Autonomy Advisory Committee, Governor Kefas underscored the significance of local government autonomy in advancing democracy and justice. He reaffirmed his decision to conduct Local Government Council elections on November 18, 2023, followed by the swearing-in of elected council chairmen on November 23, 2023. These actions aim to ensure that local governments have the mandate and credibility to effectively serve their constituencies.

In preparation for their roles, the newly elected council officials underwent a comprehensive workshop and induction program aimed at equipping them with the requisite skills, particularly in addressing security challenges that have historically plagued the state.

Notably, Taraba State achieved a significant milestone with the establishment of a Local Government Election Tribunal that received no election petitions for the first time in its history, highlighting the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.
