Speculation had circulated that Governor Alex Otti had dismissed the commissioners. However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku, clarified the situation, confirming that both commissioners resigned voluntarily and were not terminated.
Responding to inquiries, Njoku conveyed via Vanguard that, “The two Commissioners resigned from the cabinet. No one was sacked. Disregard the trending rumour.”
This development comes shortly after the suspension of Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the Commissioner for Health, about a month ago. Dr. Okoronkwo’s suspension was due to allegations of gross misconduct, pending the outcome of an investigation by a panel chaired by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu.
Governor Otti, known for his firm stance against corruption and inefficiency, had previously cautioned all members of his administration to uphold these principles throughout their tenures.
As of now, the state government has not issued an official statement regarding these resignations.
