The Hisbah department of the Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation has apprehended 14 individuals on charges of engaging in prostitution and illicit drug use. This enforcement action was conducted during a recent joint operation with other security agencies in the Damaturu metropolis.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Yusuf Hassan Yusuf, disclosed the details while presenting the suspects to the media. The group comprised nine females and five males, all detained due to their involvement in activities deemed contrary to Islamic teachings.
Yusuf highlighted that some of the arrested individuals would be handed over to security agencies for legal proceedings, emphasizing the gravity of their alleged offenses. Meanwhile, others among the suspects would undergo counseling sessions facilitated by Islamic clerics in an effort to address and rectify their behavior.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation, in collaboration with the Hisbah police and other security forces, to maintain moral standards in accordance with Islamic principles within the community.
