16-Year-Old Girl Raped And Killed By Kidnappers In Ekiti 

The remains of 16-year-old Shileola Ogunmolasuyi, a recent secondary school graduate who was abducted alongside her mother, Yemi Ogunmolasuyi, have been laid to rest in Emure, Ekiti State.

Shileola and her mother were kidnapped, along with another woman, Caroline Taiwo, on August 31, 2024, near Oyimo River along the Emure-Eporo Road. The kidnappers ambushed their vehicle, which was heading to Akure after a family event in Emure. During the attack, Oluwole Taiwo, Caroline’s husband, who was driving the car, was killed.

According to a community leader in Emure who spoke to one of the victims, Shileola was brutally murdered after being repeatedly assaulted. The kidnappers forced the victims to walk for 24 hours without food or water. Shileola, who was weakened by the assault and unable to continue, was killed by the kidnappers.

Yemi Ogunmolasuyi and Caroline Taiwo were released on September 3, 2024, after a ransom of N10 million was paid. The ransom was delivered at a location on the Owo-Ikare-Benin Road in Ondo State, and the captives were freed early in the morning on September 4.

After Yemi’s release, local security forces, including members of the Amotekun corps and Agro Marshal, began searching for Shileola’s body. Her remains were eventually discovered in a bush near Ago Panu village in Ondo State.

The Secretary of the Emure Progressives Association, Niyi Awopetu, confirmed the recovery of her body. Shileola, originally from Ondo State, was laid to rest last week.
