EFCC Declares: Yahaya Bello Still Wanted, No Arrest Made

The EFCC also reiterated that the warrant for Bello’s arrest, linked to ₦80.2 billion in alleged money laundering, is still in effect.

“Reports suggesting that Yahaya Bello is in the custody of the EFCC are false. The Commission wishes to clarify that he is not in our facility,” Oyewale said. “Bello, who has been declared wanted over ₦80.2 billion money laundering allegations, remains at large, with a valid arrest warrant still in place.”

This position contradicts a statement from Bello’s media team, which claimed that the former governor had voluntarily honored the EFCC’s invitation after consulting with his family, legal team, and political associates, insisting he has “nothing to hide.”

Bello’s case has been marked by a history of avoiding EFCC summons, including a tense standoff at his Abuja residence. Despite the EFCC obtaining a warrant for his arrest, intervention by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, delayed further action.

Bello currently faces 19 counts of alleged money laundering, with his trial set to continue on September 25.
