Sources indicate that Shettima will be present at Sunday’s decisive match, scheduled to take place at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
According to SocreNigeria, the vice president will be accompanied by several high-ranking government officials on the trip to Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to encounter the Elephants of Ivory Coast once again in the final at 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, following their previous meeting in the group stage.
It is worth recalling that Shettima flew into Cote d’Ivoire ahead of the team’s semi-final triumph against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
The nation’s second-in-command witnessed the game firsthand at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake and later joined the players and officials in the dressing room to celebrate after the victory.
‘Awa Lokan’ – Tinubu Encourages Super Eagles of Nigeria Ahead of 2023 AFCON Final
Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged the Super Eagles to clinch victory in the 2023 AFCON, emphasizing the slogan ‘Awa Lokan’.
‘Awa Lokan’ translates to “it is our turn” in Yoruba, a phrase that gained prominence during President Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.
President Tinubu wants the Super Eagles to perceive the 2023 AFCON as their opportunity to triumph in the tournament, as they last claimed victory 13 years ago.
It’s worth recalling that their previous triumph was in South Africa in 2013 under the leadership of the late Stephen Keshi. Since then, they had not made it to the final until the ongoing edition.
The Super Eagles secured their spot in the final after finishing second in Group A with one draw and two victories, including a 1-0 win against hosts Ivory Coast. They then defeated Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa to advance to the final.
