Nigerian Woman Raises Alarm Over Men’s D3aths, Claims 8 Out Of 10 Obituaries Are Male

A Nigerian woman has sparked debate on social media after expressing concern over what she described as a high number of men among the deceased in society during a funeral gathering in southeastern Nigeria.

In a video circulating online, the woman claimed that men appeared to account for a larger proportion of obituary announcements in her surroundings, estimating that eight out of every ten notices were for men, compared with two for women. She described the trend as troubling and called for greater attention to the issue.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman linked what she perceived as the premature deaths of men to financial difficulties, emotional stress and challenges within marriages. She urged women to support their husbands and avoid actions that could add to the pressures they face.

During her remarks, she also accused some women of being unfaithful to their husbands and suggested that certain individuals might look forward to becoming widows so they could pursue relationships with other men. Her comments have generated discussion about marital responsibilities, fidelity and the pressures affecting men.

The woman called on couples to show greater understanding and care for one another, emphasising the importance of support within marriage.

However, her estimate of the proportion of deceased men and women was based on her personal observation of obituary announcements. The video does not provide statistical evidence establishing that men account for eight out of every ten deaths or that marital difficulties are responsible for the deaths she referenced.

Her remarks have nevertheless drawn attention to broader conversations about men’s physical and emotional well-being, financial pressures and the importance of supportive relationships.
