2023 Bombshell: David Mark Reveals Why Peter Obi Lost PDP Presidential Ticket

Jacob Mark, a former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that contrary to widespread belief, Peter Obi was not denied the party’s 2023 presidential ticket.

According to Mark, the former Anambra State Governor had already exited the PDP to join the Labour Party before the presidential primaries took place—meaning he was never in the race under the PDP banner.

“There’s no truth to the narrative that Obi was denied the ticket,” he said.

Mark further dismissed speculations that the PDP is planning to hand Obi its 2027 presidential ticket, insisting that such reports are based on personal opinions rather than official party deliberations.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television on Thursday, Mark was responding to comments made by former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who had suggested that Obi would return to the PDP and clinch its 2027 ticket.

Mark said:
“I don’t believe anyone denied Peter Obi the PDP ticket in 2023. He left before the primary and chose to join the Labour Party. That was his decision.”

He continued:
“While many people speculate he might return to the PDP, such opinions are personal and not grounded in any formal resolution by the party. Of course, Obi has become a political brand following his strong 2023 performance, and any party would value such a candidate.”

Mark added that if Obi were to return to the PDP, he would certainly be a strong contender, but emphasized that no official steps have been taken in that direction.
