2025 Nigeria Polytechnic Games: 53 Polytechnics, 4,000 Athletes, And Unmatched Excitement Await

The Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Oluwakemi Ogungbamigbe, announced in a press release on Thursday that the games will span eight days, from April 5 to April 12. This year’s edition promises an exciting blend of sports, cultural exchanges, and economic activities, ensuring a memorable experience for all participants and attendees. Competitions will include athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, chess, scrabble, handball, badminton, table tennis, judo, and taekwondo.

Abubakar Abdullahi, the Secretary General of the Nigeria Polytechnics Games Association (NIPOGA), revealed that around 4,000 athletes from the 53 participating polytechnics have registered for the event.

Several contingents have already arrived from states like Delta, Taraba, Bauchi, Rivers, Osun, and Ekiti, with others still en route.

At a previous press conference discussing the event’s preparation, Dr. Kadiri Kamoru, the Rector, emphasized that this edition of NIPOGA is not just about winning medals, but also about promoting friendship, inclusivity, and social cohesion among students from across the country. He noted that the tournament serves as an important platform for identifying emerging talents and could serve as a stepping stone for future international sports participation.

The theme for this year’s NIPOGA Games is ‘Ijakadi 2024,’ a term that honors the rich cultural heritage of Offa, the host town. Offa is renowned for its traditional Ijakadi festival, a wrestling event that symbolizes values such as equality, unity, and justice.
