2027 Alliance Loading? Wike Breaks Silence On Meeting LP Chairman Abure

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed growing speculation over his recent meeting with the factional Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, clarifying that the nature of their discussion will be disclosed at the appropriate time.

Speaking during his regular media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike described the meeting as routine political engagement, stressing that such interactions are common among politicians and should not spark controversy.

“You said Abure came to visit me. Of course, he’s a politician, and I’m a politician. What’s wrong if politicians meet?” Wike said.

When asked whether the meeting was linked to political calculations for the 2027 elections, Wike declined to elaborate but gave a subtle hint.
“Why should I reveal my plans for 2027 now? When the time comes, you’ll find out,” he added.

Meanwhile, Julius Abure, during the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on July 22, 2025, addressed the backlash and media buzz surrounding the visit. He clarified that it was a private meeting, which had been misinterpreted by the public.

He stated, “Last week, I visited the FCT Minister, and it generated several comments and misconceptions, largely based on photographs that circulated.”

Abure further explained, “I live in the FCT, and Wike is the Minister of the FCT. As a Nigerian, I have the right to meet and interact with any public officeholder. The visit was personal, not political.”
