2027 Bombshell: Makinde Declares Readiness To Become Nigeria’s Next President!

The two-term governor and influential member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Makinde, regarded as a major voice within the opposition, discussed his political prospects and the shifting dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to him, the next election won’t simply be a showdown between the PDP and the APC, but rather a contest between the Nigerian people and the current ruling establishment.
“I have no doubts about my capacity to hold the highest office in the land. I know I possess the qualities required,” he stated. “But the real question is—do Nigerians want that right now? Is it something my party will support? We’ll have to wait and see. There’s still time.”
He emphasized, however, that the immediate focus must be on rebuilding the PDP and strengthening its foundation before any discussions of a presidential bid.
“We must fix our party. A strong platform is essential for any meaningful political ambition,” Makinde said.
Still, he acknowledged that his political journey might not necessarily lead to a higher office, adding with humility, “If this is where my political journey ends, I’m content.”
Rising Political Movements Ahead of 2027
Meanwhile, political alliances are beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections. A notable coalition led by PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is emerging as a major opposition force.
This alliance—unveiled on March 20, 2025—includes key national figures such as Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, and Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State. The group aims to present a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which has come under fire for its handling of the economy, inflation, and the growing cost of living crisis.
