The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its recruitment portal for Nigerians interested in serving as ad hoc election staff ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the commission announced that the INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, known as INECPRES, would open at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, and remain open until midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.

The recruitment exercise covers several election-related positions, including Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Centre Managers and Registration Area Technical Support personnel. INEC’s official eligibility information outlines specific requirements for each category.

Those who may be eligible include serving civil and public servants, serving National Youth Service Corps members, eligible former corps members, students of tertiary institutions, staff of government ministries, departments and agencies, heads or staff of institutions hosting Registration Area Centres, and qualified personnel with information technology backgrounds.

Applicants are required to provide a functional email address, active telephone number, personal bank account details, a recent passport photograph, relevant staff or student identification, qualification documents and a valid means of identification. Eligible NYSC applicants are also required to provide the applicable NYSC call-up information.

To apply, prospective applicants are expected to access the INECPRES platform through INEC’s official website, review the eligibility requirements for the available positions and select the category for which they qualify. They must then create an account, complete the application form with accurate personal, contact and banking information, upload the required documents and submit the application.

INEC advises applicants to carefully review all information before submitting their forms, as submitted applications are treated as final. Applicants who successfully complete the process are expected to print their acknowledgement slips for future verification.

The commission also states that applicants can apply for only one election staff position. Eligibility and other requirements vary according to the category being sought.

INEC has urged prospective applicants to rely on its official platforms for accurate information concerning the recruitment exercise and to avoid submitting false or inaccurate details.

The recruitment forms part of the commission’s preparations for the 2027 elections, with INEC’s current election calendar listing the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 2027 and the governorship and State House of Assembly elections for February 2027.
