The unveiling ceremony took place at the PDP state secretariat in Abeokuta and was attended by party leaders, stakeholders, youth and women groups, as well as supporters from across the state.
Among those present was Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose appearance followed her recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking speculation about a possible return to the PDP.
In her acceptance remarks, Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity, describing her nomination as a call to dedicated service to the people of Ogun State.
She pledged loyalty to the PDP and its governorship candidate, promising to contribute her experience and expertise toward delivering impactful governance focused on development.
According to her, the PDP ticket represents an opportunity to advance policies centred on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, healthcare improvement, and infrastructure development.
“Our mission is to restore hope to the people of Ogun State. We are committed to building a government that listens, responds to citizens’ needs, and ensures inclusive development,” she said.
She also called on party members to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the event, Adebutu described his running mate as competent, experienced, and passionate about public service, adding that her selection followed wide consultations within the party.
He said the pairing reflects the PDP’s commitment to inclusiveness, credibility, and effective leadership, adding that the ticket offers a strong alternative for the people of Ogun State.
Adebutu further outlined his campaign priorities, including job creation, industrial growth, improved infrastructure, and policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
On the party’s electoral prospects, he expressed confidence that the PDP would form the next government in Ogun State, noting that past setbacks would not deter its ambition.
He added that the party had presented a strong and united team for the 2027 race, saying internal divisions that previously weakened the party had been resolved.
The PDP governorship candidate also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reiterating his confidence that the PDP would defeat the incumbent government in the forthcoming election.
Party leaders at the event described Sowunmi-Kolapo’s emergence as a significant boost to the PDP’s campaign, citing her professional background, leadership experience, and grassroots appeal.
Sowunmi-Kolapo, a seasoned media executive and public affairs strategist with over 26 years of experience, has built a career spanning journalism, corporate communications, and public service.
She is the founder and CEO of Right-Dev Limited and publisher of The Point Newspaper, and has previously served in senior communications and political roles, including as a former national publicity officer in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her appointment is widely seen within the party as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the PDP’s visibility and appeal ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
