In an interview with Punch, Utomi shared that many dissatisfied members of both the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as influential figures from five other political parties, are eager to join forces in the coalition. He emphasized that these movements were vital to creating a broad-based alliance capable of unseating President Bola Tinubu and driving positive change in the country.

Utomi stressed that the coalition’s central aim is to address Nigeria’s issues within the context of the evolving global landscape. He pointed out that significant figures from both major parties—APC and PDP—are actively seeking collaboration, united by a belief in improving governance.

“This is serious business. Nigeria is at a crossroads during a time of shifting global dynamics,” Utomi said, underscoring that the coalition’s primary focus is on influential groups within the political parties.

He also revealed, “There are good people within the APC and PDP who share our values and development strategy, who have substantial followings and believe in a better way. They have reached out to us.”

Regarding the coalition’s internal dynamics, Utomi highlighted that the alliance is rooted in self-sacrifice and collective decision-making. “The driving force is self-sacrifice. We will build a leadership that values collective decisions. It’s about forming an alliance that prioritizes the welfare of Nigerians,” he explained.

Although managing diverse political interests within the coalition presents challenges, Utomi expressed confidence that their approach would deliver effective solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

Utomi outlined the coalition’s vision of functioning as a national unity government focused on advancing the common good in a transparent, democratic, and people-centered manner. “What we need is a national unity government that works towards a developmental state, bringing progress to every region of Nigeria,” he affirmed, noting that the new leadership would break from past practices.

He also criticized previous leadership styles, including that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which he claimed hindered the collective good. “No more of the Buhari or ‘Baba sope’ approach that obstructed the collective goal of past rescue missions,” Utomi said.

In his vision for a more inclusive and effective leadership, Utomi emphasized that decisions within the coalition would be made collaboratively. “We will not be victims of groupthink anymore. A collective shadow team will be active shortly, and where necessary, we will turn to the people to reset the agenda of our country,” he declared.

Building A Disciplined, People-Centered Democracy – Utomi

Utomi reiterated that the coalition’s primary goal is to restore the true purpose of democracy—serving the people. “Our aim is to make democracy work for the people and ensure a government focused on the welfare of citizens, while advancing constitutional reforms for a better-functioning Nigeria,” he said.

He also stressed that the coalition aims to address the decline of culture in Nigeria by setting an example of disciplined political behavior and recruitment into public office. “The change we deserve is about a core group of people who are self-sacrificing and focused on disciplined organization,” he added.

Utomi also tackled corruption and power struggles in the political system, calling for a system rooted in integrity. “We will advance the common good in a democratic, transparent, and people-centered environment. We will not allow criminals and thugs to dominate political life,” he declared.

As discussions progress, Utomi confirmed that the coalition would be officially unveiled in June 2025. He noted that key stakeholders from both Northern and Southern Nigeria, including civil society groups, are actively involved in the coalition’s formation.

With growing momentum, Utomi and other coalition leaders, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are expected to finalize plans in the coming months.

“The coalition is here to redeem Nigeria and provide leadership based on values and collective effort. The time has come for a united front in Nigerian politics,” Utomi concluded.
