2027: Hamzat Reveals Why Tinubu’s Re-election Chances Are Stronger Than In 2023

Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure re-election at the 2027 presidential poll.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Hamzat made the assessment during an interview on Monday, September 14, while discussing the president’s political prospects ahead of the 2027 election.

The Lagos deputy governor argued that Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term are “far, far, far better” than they were during the 2023 presidential election.

Hamzat explained that the political circumstances surrounding the 2027 election would be different from those that shaped the 2023 contest. According to him, Nigerians now have the opportunity to assess Tinubu based on his performance and record since assuming office.

The APC governorship candidate also argued that some of the religious concerns that affected Tinubu’s campaign in 2023 had diminished. He maintained that the president’s appointments and policies had demonstrated that his administration was not guided by religious or ethnic considerations.

Hamzat recalled that during the 2023 election, questions surrounding Tinubu’s Muslim faith and southern background generated concerns in parts of the country, particularly in regions with large Christian populations.

However, he said the president’s actions in office had shown that he prioritises competence and credibility when making appointments, rather than allowing ethnicity or religion to determine his choices.

The deputy governor noted that some of the criticisms surrounding Tinubu’s administration had previously focused heavily on the religious identities of key officials, including the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank. He argued that the president now has a record in government that he can defend before Nigerians.

Hamzat further pointed to Lagos as an example of religious cooperation, noting that although he is a Muslim, he regularly participates in Christian gatherings and activities.

He also highlighted the role of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, where Christian and Muslim leaders meet to discuss issues affecting residents and seek common ground on matters of concern.

The APC candidate recalled a dispute surrounding an autopsy-related policy, explaining that members of the Muslim community initially objected because of the importance of burying the dead promptly. According to him, the matter was eventually resolved through dialogue between Christian and Muslim representatives under NIREC.

Hamzat maintained that such cooperation demonstrated that religious differences could be managed through dialogue and mutual understanding. He consequently expressed optimism that Tinubu would perform better electorally in 2027 than he did in 2023, particularly in Lagos State.

Assessing the president’s prospects, Hamzat concluded that Tinubu’s chances of securing another term in office are “far, far, far better” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
