2027: Laide Olabanji Challenges Nigerians To Look Beyond Tribe, Supports Peter Obi

Nollywood actor Laide Olabanji has renewed his support for Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election, urging Nigerians to look beyond ethnic considerations when deciding who should lead the country.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Olabanji made his position known in a post on his Instagram page, where he argued that a leader’s ability to improve a country should not necessarily be measured by the length of time spent in office.

The actor referenced the military administrations of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon and his successor, the late General Murtala Muhammed, to illustrate his argument.

Olabanji said that while a country could experience significant deterioration under one administration within a few years, another leader could potentially make substantial improvements within a shorter period.

“If someone can destroy a country in three years, another good man can make it better in just one year. Gowon ruled for nine years, Gen. Murtala Muhammed repaired it in just six months,” he wrote.

He subsequently urged Nigerians not to allow ethnic loyalty to determine their political choices, specifically calling on those who prioritise tribal considerations to consider Obi’s candidacy.

“So if your tribe person can’t give you a better life, allow Peter Obi to give you a better country. The future of your children is very important,” Olabanji added.

His comments come amid heightened political discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Obi remaining a prominent opposition figure and the NDC’s presidential candidate.

Olabanji has previously made public comments on political leadership and governance, using his social media platforms to express his views on issues concerning Nigeria’s political future.
