2027: NDC Fires Back, Reveals Governorship Candidates In All 28 States
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected reports suggesting that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party has candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold.
According to the party, reports claiming that it has only 16 governorship candidates are false, malicious and intended to undermine its growing political momentum across the country.
NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the clarification in a statement on Saturday, stressing that the party is fully prepared for the 2027 elections and has established structures across the country.
Director maintained that the NDC is not a regional political platform, but a national movement with candidates, supporters and structures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
To counter the claims, the party released the names of its governorship candidates in the 12 states mentioned in the reports. They include Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara State, Rtd Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno State, Hon. John Odey in Cross River State and Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom State.
Other candidates listed by the party are Nwofe Boniface for Ebonyi State, Yakubu Solomon Ndam for Plateau State, Ilu-Barde Aliyu for Katsina State, Alhaji Umar Usman Besse for Kebbi State, Jonga Yahaya Gabakau for Yobe State, Dutse Aminu Sani for Jigawa State, Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani for Taraba State and Abdu Sidi Bomi for Niger State.
The party also called on media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information and scrutinise their sources before publishing reports concerning political developments.
According to the NDC, spreading unverified claims could undermine public confidence in the media and weaken trust in the democratic process. The party said it would remain focused on issue-based politics and would not allow what it described as sponsored misinformation to distract it ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC further declared that it was prepared to offer Nigerians an alternative to what it described as the old political order, promising to focus on issues including security, employment opportunities and accountability.
The party urged Nigerians to support its political movement ahead of the 2027 elections, maintaining that its preparation for the forthcoming polls is already well underway.
