2027: “Pack Your Bags” — Melaye Fires Warning At Tinubu Ahead Of Election

African Democratic Congress chieftain Dino Melaye has challenged President Bola Tinubu and members of his family to prepare to leave the Presidential Villa ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the opposition party will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Melaye made the remarks during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, where he attributed the expected electoral setback of the Tinubu administration to what he described as widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians over worsening hardship, insecurity, killings and alleged corruption.

The former senator and lawyer said the ADC’s strategy for winning the 2027 election was straightforward, insisting that Nigerians were increasingly eager for a change in government.

Melaye argued that the government had failed to adequately implement its budgets despite borrowing funds, while accusing the administration of leaving several government contracts unpaid.

He further alleged that contracts awarded as far back as 2024 remained unsettled, describing the situation as evidence of poor fiscal management and ineffective governance.

According to him, the growing economic hardship and insecurity had created a significant gap between the government and the people, who he said would have the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box.

Melaye also criticised the administration’s approach to governance, claiming that Nigerians had become more fearful of government actions rather than government being concerned about public reaction.

He additionally accused President Tinubu of making comments that could be interpreted as condoning electoral malpractice, violence and ballot snatching, arguing that such remarks were inappropriate for a sitting President and national role model.

The ADC chieftain predicted a change of government after the 2027 election and directly warned Tinubu and his family to prepare to vacate the Presidential Villa.

He said the election results would demonstrate the extent of public dissatisfaction with the current administration and usher in a new government.

Melaye resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in July 2025 and subsequently joined the ADC. Since then, he has emerged as one of the opposition party’s prominent voices and has been involved in its political and legal activities.
