2027: Pat Utomi Reveals What He Will Do If Peter Obi Accepts VP Offer
Political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, has reiterated his support for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections, but said he would withdraw that support if Obi accepts a vice-presidential position under another presidential candidate.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Utomi stated his position in a post on his social media platform, stressing that his support for Obi is specifically tied to the former Anambra State governor pursuing the presidency.
Utomi said his decision was not based on personal loyalty or differences with other politicians, but on his view of the kind of leadership he believes Nigeria requires and the direction the country should take.
“Peter Obi has my support for the presidency. But my position is clear, I am not supporting the idea of Peter Obi becoming somebody else’s Vice President. The day Peter Obi accepts a Vice Presidential position, I will walk away from his corner,” Utomi said.
The political economist also renewed his call for a national conversation on the age of individuals seeking executive political offices in Nigeria. He proposed that presidential and governorship candidates should be aged 70 or below.
Utomi argued that Nigeria should consider having younger leadership at the executive level, saying his position was based on principles concerning the country’s future rather than allegiance to particular political personalities.
He urged Nigerians to assess the positions he has publicly stated and make their own judgments about the issues surrounding leadership and the 2027 elections.
