2027 Presidency: Atiku, Obi, Other Top Politicians Storm Opposition Coalition Summit

Several prominent political figures, including presidential candidates of opposition parties, have converged on Abuja for a major coalition summit ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the meeting, organised by the political pressure group G-100, is aimed at fostering cooperation among opposition parties and building a united political platform capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

Among the early arrivals at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja were the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke; the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewale Adebayo; and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu.

Also present at the summit were the Allied Peoples Movement (AP) vice presidential candidate, Lawal Daura; PRP National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed; and SDP vice presidential candidate, Usman Bugaje.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, also attended the gathering alongside the convener of G-100, Salihu Lukman, and the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

In his welcome address, Lukman called on opposition political parties to put aside their differences and focus on issues that would promote the collective interest of Nigerians.

He stressed that the initiative was not intended to force any political party to dissolve or abandon its identity, but rather to encourage the parties to work together towards a common objective.

Lukman urged the various opposition groups to first establish a strong platform for cooperation before beginning negotiations over political positions and other interests.

“We are not asking any political party to dissolve. Let us agree that we must build the table before negotiating the seats,” he said.

The summit is expected to feature discussions on strategies for strengthening opposition cooperation and establishing a coordinated political front ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
