2027 Presidency: Northern APC Chieftain Reveals Alleged Power-Sharing Deal Between Buhari and Tinubu

Published

A former member of the House of Representatives, Magaji Da’u Aliyu, has called on Northern political leaders to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing an alleged political agreement reached before the 2015 presidential election.

Aliyu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Deputy Campaign Director of the North for Tinubu Support Group, claimed that Northern leaders had promised to support the return of presidential power to Tinubu’s political camp after former President Muhammadu Buhari completed eight years in office.

He made the statement while addressing supporters in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, where he insisted that the North had a responsibility to honour the alleged agreement.

According to the former lawmaker, Northern political leaders approached Tinubu in Lagos ahead of the 2015 election to seek his support for Buhari, who had unsuccessfully contested the presidency on three previous occasions.

Aliyu explained that Tinubu eventually agreed to support Buhari’s ambition after the Northern leaders reportedly assured him that power would return to his political camp following Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

He maintained that supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027 would amount to fulfilling the promise allegedly made during the negotiations.

The APC chieftain insisted that Northern political leaders had no justification for abandoning the understanding, stressing that honouring the agreement was an important political responsibility.

He also declared that members of the Northern Tinubu Support Group were prepared to commit their resources towards ensuring the President’s re-election.

Aliyu said the group would support Tinubu’s 2027 ambition with their wealth and personal commitment in order to fulfil what he described as the promise made to the President.

Meanwhile, the former lawmaker defended Tinubu against criticism over the country’s worsening security challenges, arguing that no individual had absolute power to guarantee security.

He urged Nigerians to stop blaming the President for the insecurity confronting the country and instead seek divine intervention for lasting peace and stability.

According to Aliyu, only God has the ultimate power to provide security, adding that Nigerians should seek forgiveness and pray for improved peace across the country.

His remarks have added to the growing political debate surrounding the 2027 presidential election, particularly discussions about the alleged political understanding between Northern leaders and Tinubu ahead of the 2015 election.
