2027 Presidency: Obi Camp Declares It Unshaken Despite Jonathan’s Alleged Comeback Plans – Umeh

Umeh stated that Jonathan’s alleged ambition would not weaken Obi’s support base or reduce his chances in the upcoming general election.

He made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme, where he addressed concerns that Jonathan’s possible return could unsettle Obi’s political camp.

The senator dismissed such fears, arguing that every major political figure already has an established support base and that Obi’s followers remain committed and have continued to grow since the 2023 elections.

According to him, there is no reason for concern, insisting that Obi’s movement remains strong enough to make a significant impact in 2027.

Umeh further stated that Obi had built a solid political structure that could not easily be displaced by the entry of another contender.

He also revealed that Obi had consulted Jonathan multiple times regarding his political ambitions, adding that at no point did the former President indicate any intention to contest the 2027 election during those discussions.

However, he acknowledged that Jonathan retains the constitutional right to run if he chooses to do so.

Despite this, Umeh maintained that Jonathan’s entry into the race would not diminish Obi’s political strength, stressing that his support base continues to expand rather than shrink.

He also defended Obi’s earlier pledge to serve only one term if elected President, arguing that a focused leader could achieve meaningful national reforms within four years by setting the country on a path of recovery and development.

Umeh added that Nigerians are increasingly seeking leaders who deliver on promises, emphasizing the need for accountability, trust, and clear governance direction.

He further described Obi as one of the most financially disciplined politicians he has worked with, citing his performance as former governor of Anambra State as evidence of prudent resource management.

The senator also alleged internal challenges within the Labour Party, claiming that some elements were working in alignment with ruling party interests to destabilize the opposition.

He said ongoing disputes within the party had made it difficult for some members to remain, leading to realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Umeh rejected claims that the NDC had become dominated by a single figure, insisting instead that the party has been strengthened by the entry of prominent political actors, including Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to him, the party is positioning itself as a broader opposition platform aimed at offering Nigerians a credible alternative in the 2027 general elections.
