Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has alleged that efforts may be underway to prevent key opposition figures, including Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from appearing on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oseni made the remarks on Tuesday during the Morning Show on Arise TV, linking his concerns to a recent Federal High Court judgment involving the deregistration of some political parties.

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party (AP), Action Peoples Party (APP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Action Alliance Party (AAP), citing alleged constitutional and statutory breaches.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which argued that the affected parties failed to meet requirements for continued recognition as political parties.

The court also restrained INEC from recognising the affected parties or allowing them to present candidates in the 2027 elections, a decision that could potentially impact politicians affiliated with some of the parties.

During the programme, Oseni described the judgment as a “test run,” suggesting that further political and legal developments could unfold ahead of the elections.

He warned opposition parties such as the ADC and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to be cautious, alleging that attempts might be made to sideline major contenders in the upcoming polls.

Oseni also urged Nigerians to remain alert and actively protect democratic processes, calling for broader judicial reforms in the country.

He argued that the ruling appeared inconsistent given that some of the affected parties had recorded electoral successes at various levels.

According to him, the development reflects what he described as a wider strategy that could shape the political environment ahead of 2027.

He further alleged that the judgment could be part of a series of unfolding events, urging citizens to closely monitor the situation and ensure that democracy is safeguarded.
