2027 Shockwave: Northern Senator Abandons APC For PDP In Major Political Move

Published

Senator Salihu Mustapha, who represents the Kwara Central Senatorial District, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his defection, Mustapha has reportedly secured the PDP senatorial ticket for Kwara Central.

The senator formally obtained the party’s nomination form for the district, with the Kwara State PDP chairman presenting the form to him.

Mustapha had earlier announced his decision to leave the APC, citing recent developments and internal challenges within the party in Kwara State.

He explained that the decision followed weeks of consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, constituents and other concerned individuals across the state.

According to him, his exit from the APC was not a decision he took lightly but followed careful consideration of developments within the party and their potential impact on his political future.

Mustapha said his decision was driven by his conviction that politics should be focused on the people, principles and purpose, stressing that political platforms must reflect the interests and aspirations of the people they represent.

He added that whenever a political platform no longer adequately reflects those values and aspirations, it becomes necessary to “chart a new course.”

The senator maintained that his resignation from the APC was therefore the outcome of extensive reflection and consultation.
