2027 Showdown: Abejide Predicts Tinubu’s Landslide Victory Over Jonathan In 32 States

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu would achieve a resounding victory if former President Goodluck Jonathan contests the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview on the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday, the lawmaker representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in Kogi State predicted that Tinubu could clinch more than 32 states in such a matchup.

“My prayer is that they both run on separate political platforms, and Asiwaju will take 32 states. Maybe he’ll lose Anambra and Abia, but he will win Ebonyi. In fact, he could win even more than 32 states,” Abejide said.

Abejide, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), advised Jonathan against returning to the presidential race, stressing that the current political climate works in Tinubu’s favour.

Jonathan, who served one term before losing to the late Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, has been at the centre of speculation over a possible 2027 comeback.

Dismissing claims that Tinubu’s influence is declining, Abejide pointed to the president’s recent tours across Northern Nigeria as evidence of enduring public support.

“I was in Kano on Wednesday and spent the night there. Yesterday morning, I drove to Kaduna—no insecurity, the roads are excellent. This morning, I took the train to Abuja, and I can tell you, people are happy,” he added.
