2027 Showdown Brews: PDP Alleges Gov Abiodun Targeting Ex-Gov Daniel With Demolition Plot

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of pursuing a political vendetta after the state government moved to demolish the residence and hotel of former Governor Gbenga Daniel.

According to the PDP, the tension between Abiodun and Daniel — now the senator representing Ogun East — stems from their alleged interest in the same senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party claims Daniel is preparing to seek re-election, while Abiodun, who lost the seat to the late Buruji Kashamu in 2015, is eyeing the position once his second term as governor ends.

In response, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, urged the PDP to focus on resolving its internal disputes rather than interfering in state matters. He stressed that government policies are driven by law and public interest, not political rivalry.

Earlier on Saturday, Daniel alleged that Governor Abiodun had ordered the demolition of his Sagamu residence, The Asoludero Court, as well as Conference Hotels Limited and its annex.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, Daniel said the order was delivered through contravention, quit, and demolition notices posted on the properties on Friday, August 8, around 4 p.m., with a three-day compliance deadline.

The notices, referencing the 2022 Urban and Regional Planning Law of Ogun State, cited alleged violations such as construction without proper permits. Daniel dismissed the claims as “laughable,” insisting the move was “political vindictiveness at its most shameful.”

He pointed out that the properties in question were built years before the 2022 law existed — with The Asoludero Court completed in 2004, Conference Hotel Sagamu in 2013, and its annex in 2015 — making the government’s justification, in his words, “ludicrous and flimsy.”
