Fintiri disclosed that he would publicly announce his choice of successor next week after weighing several political considerations. He stated that it is his duty to the people of the state to ensure that only a capable individual takes over leadership, adding that he is prepared to face any political consequences that may arise from his decision. According to him, he has already gauged public sentiment and is aware of the candidate most preferred by the people to succeed him. While affirming his intention to support a chosen candidate, the governor also made it clear that he would not prevent anyone interested in the governorship race from contesting. He said, “I have the right to anoint my candidate, and by next week, I will make him known. “Anybody who puts my people in pain, I will fight him. At this moment, I will take my decision as the Governor of the State to ensure the best succeeds me. Not even at the threat of persecution. I am fully ready and prepared to put my life and blood for this state to succeed.” He made the remarks during a meeting with political stakeholders in the state.
