The crisis within the Arewa Consultative Forum escalated on Tuesday after police operatives sealed off its secretariat in Kaduna.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The action prevented members of the Forum’s National Executive Committee (NEC) from gaining access to the premises ahead of a scheduled meeting set for Wednesday.

The development triggered tension and confusion, as delegates who arrived from various parts of the 19 northern states were turned back at the entrance.

A NEC member, Muritala Abubakar, described the police action as unnecessary, insisting that no internal crisis within the Forum warranted such intervention. He also alleged that officers on duty said they were acting on directives linked to a former Inspector-General of Police, raising further concerns.

In contrast, the Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, Bashir Dalhatu, had earlier declared the planned NEC meeting invalid, advising members not to attend in order to prevent a breakdown of order. He argued that the notice for the meeting was issued by an ex-Secretary General whose tenure had already expired.

However, the NEC leadership maintains that the meeting is legitimate, citing constitutional provisions of the Forum and insisting that members should proceed as scheduled.

Despite the standoff, the Forum says preparations for the meeting continue while efforts are underway to resolve the dispute and restore access to the sealed secretariat.
