2027: Wike Tells Lulu-Briggs’ Kinsmen Why NDC Candidate Cannot Win Rivers Governorship

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed doubts about the chances of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, winning the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

Wike made the remarks on Thursday during a town hall meeting with Lulu-Briggs’ kinsmen in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he cautioned the community against voting for a candidate solely because of their family or community ties.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the FCT minister acknowledged that Lulu-Briggs was one of their sons seeking to become governor but insisted that his chances of winning under the NDC platform were slim.

Wike urged the people not to allow sentiments surrounding their relationship with the candidate to influence their political decision, stressing the need to consider the party under which he is contesting.

He said, “I know that one of your sons is contesting for governorship under NDC, yes, we want our son to be a governor but we must be realistic. As it is today, he cannot win under that party.

“If it is APC or even PDP, we would have said, okay, as a coalition member, what do we do? NDC is totally far from it.

“You have a son who is going to be the deputy governor and that one is certain but there is no way for the other one. Let’s not make mistakes because he is your son.”

The minister subsequently appealed to the community to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, pointing out that his running mate also hails from their community.

Wike’s comments come amid growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
