The incident was brought to light by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who shared a video on his Facebook page on Sunday showing the young man lying in a hospital bed. In the video, Otse explains that the police officers approached the young man, demanded N200,000, and shot him when he was unable to pay.

“21-year-old boy shot by the police yesterday in Kubwa, Abuja because they requested 200k and he didn’t have it to give them,” VeryDarkMan posted along with the video. “Are we supposed to run from armed robbers, kidnappers, and now even from the Nigeria Police, who are meant to protect us? This situation is getting out of hand.”

In the video, the young man reportedly narrated that he was stopped by the officers, who immediately demanded the large sum of money. When he could not comply, they allegedly shot him.

VeryDarkMan called on the Force Police Public Relations Officer and the FCT Police Public Relations Officer to launch a thorough investigation into the matter, urging authorities to hold those responsible accountable for the attack.

The case has sparked outrage, with calls for justice and an end to police brutality.
