Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed in a statement that the air interdiction missions, dubbed Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA, were launched with high-impact night operations targeting the strongholds of notorious bandits in the region.
The initial wave of strikes was prompted by confirmed intelligence reports regarding a rise in terrorist activities in areas controlled by infamous bandit leaders who have terrorized local communities for years. On 8 November 2024, utilizing advanced surveillance and precision targeting, NAF assets conducted a surprise assault on multiple bandit camps, including key locations such as Sangeko in Zamfara, near the Kebbi border, and Ado Aleiro’s heavily fortified enclave in the Tsafe Local Government Area.
The strikes resulted in the destruction of a major arms depot linked to the notorious bandit leader, Ado Aleiro, and the neutralization of many of his fighters. The precise bombardment sent shockwaves through the bandit networks, significantly weakening their operational capabilities.
The impact of these operations was confirmed through intelligence reports and Battle Damage Assessments, which indicated a devastating blow to the bandits’ infrastructure and morale. Additionally, the chaos caused by the strikes allowed several kidnapped victims to escape, with some making their way to safety in Kebbi State. These survivors later provided testimonies of their daring escape from captivity.
The air campaign has not only struck fear into the hearts of the bandits but has also renewed hope among residents who have long suffered under the threat of banditry. The NAF’s actions serve as a powerful reminder of the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and security across the nation.
Further updates on Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA are expected in the coming days as the military intensifies its efforts against criminal groups in the northwest.
