On Thursday, the National Assembly approved this funding during plenary to enhance the working conditions of new lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives, as part of the amended N819.5 billion 2022 Supplementary budget.
Kalu addressed the criticism regarding this decision and explained to reporters that the purpose of the fund is not to provide financial support to the members of the National Assembly but rather to address the infrastructure needs of the parliament.
He emphasized that the main focus of the bill passed is to assist Nigerians who are experiencing the impact of subsidy removal, with the parliament’s infrastructure being just one component of the overall allocation.
