During a candid conversation on the 234 Mzansi Podcast hosted by media personality Nedu, 2Baba shared that despite their best efforts to salvage the marriage, they ultimately chose to go their separate ways because the relationship was no longer working.
Now 49, the iconic singer refrained from delving into the specifics of the breakup but praised Annie, describing her as “an amazing woman.” He emphasized that no one should feel compelled to remain in an unhappy marriage.
“I think both of us gave it our best. Why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly,” he said. “We have our own understanding. She’s amazing, but it just wasn’t working anymore. That thing you once had that’s no longer there… That’s why I said I won’t go into details.”
2Baba urged couples to do all they can to fix their marriages but warned against forcing a relationship that has clearly run its course.
“It’s important not to torture yourself or let society dictate your happiness,” he stated. “Many people are living in emotional bondage and go to their graves deeply unhappy. If it’s obvious a relationship can’t be repaired, no one should feel pressured to stay.”
He also sparked controversy by expressing a personal belief about male sexuality, saying, “I’ll speak for myself, but I don’t believe men are biologically wired to be sexually committed to one woman. A man can love, honor, and respect one woman, but biologically, monogamy is a struggle.”
While clarifying that individuals can choose to be faithful, he insisted that recognizing this reality could prevent many heartbreaks and unnecessary stress.
