36 Suspected Internet Fraudsters Convicted and Jailed In Oyo Courts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully prosecuted and sentenced 36 individuals involved in internet fraud in Oyo State. The convictions were handed down by Justices Uche Agomoh, E.U. Akpan, Ladiran Akintola, K.B. Olawoyin, Bayo Taiwo, and O.S. Adeyemi across Federal and State High Courts in Ibadan.

According to EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the convicted fraudsters, including Ayodele Ayodeji, Adebayo Akanbi, Ajayi Temitayo, and others, pleaded guilty to charges ranging from false representation, possession of fraudulent documents, to impersonation. These crimes were committed between April 24 and May 29, 2024.

Justice Agomoh imposed various sentences, with Joseph, Oluwatosin, and Kayode receiving one year each in prison without the option of a fine. Meanwhile, Justice Akpan sentenced Owonifari to one and a half years in prison and Abiodun to one year or a fine of N100,000. Justice Olawoyin sentenced Ishola to one and a half years in prison or a fine of N1.5 million and Olujobi to six months or a fine of N400,000.

Further judicial actions included community service sentences and asset forfeitures, underscoring the severity of the offenses and the EFCC’s commitment to combatting cybercrime in Nigeria.
