Ondo State Fights AGF On LG Autonomy, Labels Federal Government As Interfering

The Ondo State Government has filed a preliminary objection urging the Supreme Court to dismiss a suit brought by the Attorney-General of the Federation seeking full autonomy for local governments.

In a statement released on June 6, Ondo’s Attorney General, Olukayode Ajulo (SAN), described the Federal Government as a “meddlesome interloper,” arguing that it lacks the standing to interfere in state and local government affairs.

The objection, based on 27 grounds, asserts that the Federal Government’s actions violate constitutional provisions and seeks the court’s intervention to uphold state autonomy.

The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on June 13.
