This ceasefire is being urged in an effort to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The Factional Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, disclosed that the proposed ceasefire is scheduled to commence on October 31. Isiguzoro stated in a statement that there are ongoing confidential discussions concerning the potential release of Kanu.

Isiguzoro expressed: “In order to facilitate progress in this matter, Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls upon Biafra agitators to maintain a 40-day ceasefire, refraining from any offensive actions starting from October 31, 2023.

Upholding discipline among Biafra agitators is of paramount importance to ensure the cessation of all offensive actions during this designated 40-day period.”

He continued, “By doing so, the confidential discussions taking place behind the scenes will have the conducive atmosphere needed to work towards securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasizes the significance of engaging with the relevant authorities through diplomatic channels, as this is the most effective means of achieving the desired outcomes.”

Isiguzoro concluded with a message to the Igbo community: “We urge the Igbo people to display patience during this challenging period.

We recognize the suffering and hardships that have been endured by the people of the Southeast since the incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu.”
