This action was detailed in a statement released on Friday, August 23, by Pharmacist Stephen Esumobi, the Director of Enforcement for Cross River State. Esumobi emphasized the urgent need to safeguard public health and uphold the integrity of the healthcare system.

During the enforcement operation, approximately 500 premises were inspected, resulting in the closure of 405 facilities. These included 31 pharmacies, 174 patent medicine shops, and 200 illegal medicine stores.

Esumobi also mentioned that five compliance directives were issued, and five illegal medicine dealers were arrested for violating the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria’s seal. He expressed concern over the poor storage conditions in many of these premises, highlighting the high risk of product degradation due to exposure to harsh environmental factors such as high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.
