Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State launched the fourth phase of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme on Wednesday, distributing agricultural and infrastructural assets across the state. The initiative, aimed at over 600,000 beneficiaries spanning the 16 local government areas, underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and supporting vulnerable communities.

Speaking at the event held at the Government House in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the significance of the distribution, which includes fishing and passenger boats, hand tillers, and grinding machines. These assets are complemented by various hospital equipment donations aimed at bolstering healthcare delivery to underserved communities.

Represented by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the broad impact of NG-CARES programmes, which have benefitted over two million citizens in Kwara State. These initiatives encompass FADAMA, Social Cash Transfer, labor-intensive public workforce projects, and support from the social development agency.

“The NG-CARES programme, employing the Programme for Result (P for R) approach, marks a pivotal effort to aid vulnerable individuals and businesses affected by economic challenges,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated. He commended the State CARES Steering Committee for their diligent oversight since its inception in December 2021, ensuring effective implementation across the state.

Dr. Hauwa Nuru, Commissioner for Finance and Chair of the State Steering Committee for NG-CARES, praised the intervention as a beacon of hope supported by the World Bank amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. She emphasized its role in expanding livelihood support and promoting food security in Kwara State.

Ibiyinka Olatunde, State Coordinator for NG-CARES, lauded the state government for its proactive approach in implementing the programme, citing its significant impact on vulnerable members of society. Beneficiaries, including representatives from Alanamu and Lafiagi Emirate, expressed gratitude for the government’s support, noting the transformative impact of the distributed assets on their communities.

The ceremony, attended by cabinet members and government officials, concluded with Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi presenting NG-CARES items to beneficiaries on behalf of Governor AbdulRazaq, highlighting the administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and fostering sustainable development in Kwara State.
