The die has been cast, and the Super Eagles players have unanimously committed to intensifying their endeavors to secure the AFCON trophy today.
In a bid to instill a winning mindset among his squad, Coach Jose Peseiro emphasized to the players his fervent desire to lift the trophy, surpassing even their own aspirations.
He underscored the immense support the team has received from Nigerians since their arrival in Abidjan, highlighting the significant stature of managing the Super Eagles, the most prominent team he has coached thus far.
Previously, Peseiro’s coaching experience primarily involved lesser-known national teams such as Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, along with stints as an assistant coach and managing clubs in Portugal’s fourth-tier league.
Reflecting on his playing career as a second-tier striker in Portugal, Peseiro humbly acknowledged, “I did not play at a high level,” during an interview with UK’s Sky Sport. However, his coaching trajectory took a pivotal turn following his promotion to the top flight with Nacional, setting the stage for significant opportunities. Notably, he served as assistant to legendary Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz at Real Madrid in 2003, marking a defining moment in Peseiro’s career.
