Wike accused the university of unlawfully acquiring and fencing off vast portions of land in the Giri district without proper documentation. Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of newly constructed access roads in the area, Wike expressed concern that the university authorities might eventually sell the land for profit.

“The university arbitrarily claimed 11,000 hectares. I said, that won’t stand. There’s no documentation—nothing. They’re fencing everything, and before you know it, they’ll be selling our land,” he said.

The Minister directed the FCTA’s Director of Lands and other relevant agencies to limit the university’s allocation to 4,000 hectares. The remaining land, he said, will be used for other developmental projects in the area.

Wike also disclosed that access roads will be expanded throughout the district to accelerate infrastructure growth and make the area more habitable. He added that plans are in place for more institutions to be established in the district, working in collaboration with the National Assembly.

He revealed that the EFCC Academy, located within the district, would begin operations soon, thanks to the completion of the new access roads. “Now that the roads are ready, the EFCC can move in their equipment and start development. That will attract more activity to the area,” Wike said.

He assured that the FCTA would provide essential infrastructure—such as roads, electricity, and water—to encourage development and attract investors. “One major challenge has been the lack of infrastructure in allocated areas, which discourages development. We are committed to changing that,” he concluded.
