Speaking to journalists in Abuja after receiving a fellowship award from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Maku expressed dismay over the inability of people to safely access their farms, emphasizing the urgent need for peace to be restored in the region.

He lamented the prevalence of violent politics in the North, urging governors to take decisive action against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity that have severely impacted Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

“If I were a governor in the North today, my foremost responsibility would be to ensure peace within my state. The escalation of violence has crippled food production, escalated living costs, and undermined economic stability,” Maku asserted.

Highlighting the divisive nature of current national discourse, Maku stressed the imperative for leaders to foster unity and cohesion rather than perpetuate divisions based on regional, religious, or ethnic lines.

“We need to adopt a more inclusive approach to governance that unites rather than divides. Leadership must prioritize national unity through policies that promote peace and mutual understanding,” he affirmed.

Looking ahead, Maku urged the federal government to enhance economic management, particularly through robust monetary policies aimed at stabilizing the Naira’s value. He cautioned that a continued depreciation of the Naira would adversely affect local industries, which heavily rely on imported machinery for production.

In conclusion, Maku underscored the need for concerted efforts at all levels of government to address insecurity and economic challenges, thereby paving the way for sustainable development and prosperity across the nation.
