The news unsettled Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s campaign and the party’s operations, prompting swift responses from both sides. The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) seized the opportunity, urging Ighodalo to join their campaign efforts, while PDP’s State Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, moved quickly to reassure disheartened members that the court had not removed their candidate.
Reports indicated that Ighodalo’s campaign team was briefly thrown into disarray, awaiting further directives amidst the uncertainty. Although the PDP’s Campaign Organisation vowed to appeal the ruling promptly, Ighodalo’s counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, clarified that the court did not invalidate Ighodalo’s candidacy but raised concerns about excluded delegates.
Responding to misinformation, Aziegbemi emphasized that Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy for the 2024 elections remained intact despite rumors suggesting otherwise. He condemned efforts to mislead the party’s supporters, affirming that the Federal High Court’s judgment did not affect Ighodalo’s eligibility.
This development follows earlier attempts within the PDP to resolve disputes arising from the primary election through a panel chaired by Sen. Seriake Dickson, which recommended a political solution amidst challenges to the election’s integrity.
